Who it is for
- Manufacturers with flammable liquids, gases or combustible dusts: solvent stores, mixing and coating lines, paint shops, fuel and LPG installations, battery charging rooms, mills, silos and dust collection.
- Owners who need a classification study for their group standard, their project specification or a permit application prepared by their local consultant.
- Engineering contractors and consultancies that want the classification done in their template, ready for their review and signature.
- Plants that have a classification drawing but no calculation behind it, and want to know whether the zones hold.
How the zones are calculated
- Gases and vapours (IEC 60079-10-1): for each source of release we estimate the release rate from the substance data, pressure, temperature and opening size; compare it with the ventilation (natural or mechanical, degree and availability) to obtain the degree of dilution; and derive the zone type (0, 1, 2) and its extent. Where the standard allows a dilution or a hazardous-distance chart, we say which one we used and why.
- Dusts (IEC 60079-10-2): grade of release, housekeeping level and dust layers decide zones 20, 21 and 22; layer thickness and the permissible surface temperature of equipment are calculated from the dust data you have, or from literature values marked as such.
- North America: on request, Class I and Class II Divisions to NFPA 497 and NFPA 499 and NEC Articles 500 to 504; the report says which edition. Zone classification of Class I locations under NEC Article 505 is prepared only under the supervision of a registered Professional Engineer on your side, as 29 CFR 1910.307(g)(4)(i) requires.
- Every assumption on record: where data are missing we make an assumption, mark it, and state what would change if it is wrong. The calculation sheet shows inputs, formulas, intermediate values and the conditions under which the result holds.
What we need from you
- Layout or plot plan; P&IDs where they exist; ventilation drawings or a description of openings, fans and air changes.
- Safety data sheets, quantities, process temperatures and pressures; for dusts, particle size and any test data (minimum ignition energy, layer and cloud ignition temperatures).
- Equipment list in and around the areas, with Ex markings and certificates where available.
- For an existing plant: photos and short videos of each source of release, the openings and the extraction, taken by your team with our checklist; room dimensions and, where possible, air-flow measurements.
- Your group standard or project specification, if it sets the method or the drawing conventions.
What you receive
- A source-of-release list: location, substance, grade of release, the data behind each entry.
- A calculation sheet for every source: release rate, ventilation, degree of dilution, zone type and extent, with assumptions and validity conditions.
- Zone drawings on your layout (plan and, where needed, section), in PDF and in your CAD format if you wish.
- The equipment requirement for each zone: category or EPL, gas or dust group, temperature class.
- A short management summary: where the zones changed against the existing drawing, and what to do first.
- A report in English, signed by the responsible engineer, with a verification page behind the QR code on every page.
Where our work stops
- We do not visit sites outside Türkiye. What can only be seen on site is listed, and the report states what your team verified and what remained unverified.
- Where an authority requires a locally licensed signature, your consultant signs; our report is the engineering behind the filing and says so on its cover.
- We classify areas; we do not certify equipment and we do not carry out the periodic electrical inspection.
- The classification does not replace the on-site verification your country requires before first use; a competent person on your side does it, and our report lists what to check.
How it works
Free first look
Send the drawings and substance data you have. Within one working day we send the sources we see, the assumptions to agree and a fixed-price offer.
Data collection
Your team completes our checklist with photos, measurements and the missing data; we send the remaining questions to your team.
Calculation and drawings
Source list, calculation sheets and zone drawings; the draft is reviewed with you.
Report and one round of questions
The signed report with the verification page. One round of follow-up questions is included.
Scope, fees and timeline
| Item | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Single unit or room, up to about 10 sources of release | 5–7 working days |
| Production area or building, 10 to 30 sources | 2–3 weeks |
| Whole plant or several buildings | Agreed in the offer |
We send a fixed-price offer within one working day of seeing your documents. The price depends on the number of sources of release, the documents and drawings available, and the scope you choose; there are no hourly rates. Quotations exclude taxes.
Basis of our work. Our assessments are based on the documents, drawings and data you provide. On-site verification remains the client's responsibility unless the proposal says otherwise. Every report lists the documents it relies on and the assumptions made where information was missing.
Frequently asked questions
We already have zone drawings. Can you check them instead of starting again?
Yes. That is an independent review: every source recalculated from the data the drawing relies on, differences marked as defensible assumptions or errors, findings ranked. If the drawings have no calculation behind them, the review usually turns into a classification.
Which standard do you use?
IEC 60079-10-1 for gases and vapours and IEC 60079-10-2 for dusts, in the edition your country or your standard requires; the EN versions are identical in content. For plants in North America, NFPA 497 and 499 with the Division system; zone classification under NEC Article 505 only with a registered Professional Engineer on your side. The report names the edition.
Our plant is in the Gulf. Will the civil defence accept your study?
Filings with the authorities go through a locally licensed consultant, who adopts and signs the study; our report is the engineering behind it, in your consultant's template if you wish. Ask your consultant what the authority requires and send us the requirement; we prepare the study to it.
Can you classify a plant that is still being designed?
Yes, from P&IDs, layouts and process data. Design-stage classification is described on its own page; the method is the same, the inputs are drawings instead of photos.
In which language is the report?
English. On request, draft sections, the executive summary and the equipment requirements are also provided in German, marked as a technical translation.
Who prepares and signs the report?
Axosfer prepares the report. It is checked and signed by the responsible engineer, a chemical engineer specialised in explosion protection, and every page can be verified by QR code.
